The Battle is Over, and We Lost

Pondering Nietzsche’s Madman, running from place to place yelling “God is dead, and we have killed him!” The Madman exclaims, “What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives.” Soon, though, the Madman falls silent, realizing that the death of God had “not yet reached the ears of men.”

So it is with the death of our freedoms. The war on our freedoms has been raging since time immemorial. Of course freedom is not an absolute, but there have been periods of relative freedom, albeit brief as compared to the periods of struggle. True too that as some have enjoyed relative freedom, those same fortunate few have not tried very diligently to share their freedoms with others, and have sought to ensnare others.

Even now we are free to a certain extent. We’re free to sit in the dark on our devices, for hours on end, and to view our favored content. Just do not speak speak out against those who provide your content, and do not gather together in the light of day.

So they’ve won, and we’ve lost. And who are they? They are placeholders who imagine themselves to be as Gods. They are mere mortals such as ourselves. Destined to be replaced as Father Time continues his winning streak. But their thrones shall remain, until they don’t. Here are a few of the place holders.

May have missed a few, others that could be listed. After all, we are just consumers of the content we are allowed through our searches. None of us little ones can storm the citadels to really look behind the curtains.
