Famine in the Ukraine, Epidemic in Hubei

History has a way of repeating itself. Not in all the details certainly, but common themes recur over and over. Western journalists reporting from Marxist dictatorships being blind to their gatekeepers crimes is certainly nothing new. Someone should create a prize named after Walter Duranty of The New York Times. Certainly would be a lot of competition although perhaps not many journalists would feel very honored.

If you’re not familiar, read of Walter Duranty of The New York Times and his reporting on one of the most disturbing yet largely ignored events of the 20th Century. From The Atlantic, “How Stalin Hid Ukraine’s Famine From the World: In 1932 and 1933, millions died across the Soviet Union – and the foreign press corps helped cover up the catastrophe.” History worth knowing.
